Charter projects
The EUROPARC Federation is fortunate to be supported by a number of generous funders, without whom the work of the Federation could not continue. Together with these funding organisations and partners, it was possible to develop and implement projects aiming at strenghtening and further developing the European Charter.
European CharterNet
The “European CharterNet” started in July 2007 with the support of the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with funds from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety . It will run for a two year period until September 2009.
INTERREG IVB: Parks & Benefits
The project “Parks & Benefits” started in January 2009 for a three years period under the leadership of the Ministry for Agriculture, Environment and Consumer Protectio M-V (DE) The project will introduce and strengthen sustainable Nature Tourism approaches in the Baltic Sea Region and communicate the mutual benefits to protected parks and to their surrounding regions for regional development and sustained natural development.
INTERREG IVC: PESTO project
Under the leadership of the Finnish Natural Heritage Service (Metsähallitus) 15 partners from 9 European countries, representing national, regional and municipal level administration, park managers, 2 research institutes and the EUROPARC Federation as pan European public thematic organisation, have formed a partnership. Together they have produced a project proposal for a funding call from the DG ENV in the framework of the INTERREG IVC programme. If the proposal is successful the project will start in November 2009.
DG Enterprise: STEPPA project
Under the leadership of the Joensuu University in Finland and in strong cooperation with the Leeds Metropolitan University in England and the EUROPARC Federation, the project proposal STEPPA was submitted under the project call “Knowledge Networks for the competitiveness and sustainability of European tourism” published by DG ENT. If successful the project will start in January 2010 involving ten partners from seven countries in various activities working towards the establishment of a network of SMEs, protected areas and research centres working with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas.
