What is sustainable tourism? What kind of activities does it include? Which protected areas offer what?
The Caps et Marais d'Opale natural regional park has searched for answers within the park's boundaries but also looking at good examples from other protected areas in France and other European countries. The results were now published in a small leaflet named "Le tourisme durable, une autre approche du tourisme et des loisirs" (Sustainable tourism - another approach to tourism and leisure). The guide is directed to professionals and individuals who are interested in the concept of sustainable tourism and want to find out more about it.
The guide features examples from different protected aeras in France, amongst them also various Charter Areas as for exemple the Vexin Francais who proposed sustainable mobility solutions to allow the nearby Parisians to visit the park or the activities offered to disabled people in the Luberon. But also examples Green Tourism Business Scheme implemented in the Kent Down AONB are describe as part of sustainable tourism.
The guide has been published in French with a small but comprehensive English summary for each example. You can download it on this page.
