Cevénnes Ecotourism: A network, engagements and one ethic

Subject:Working with tourism businesses
Country:France
Language:en

The Cevennes Ecotourism Network brings tourism businesses together that are involved in a step-by-step process to improve their quality, which is supported by the Cevennes National Park. This process facilitates the implementation of the European Charter principles. Today there are already 43 certified Charter Partner Businesses in this area.

The association includes various organizations, for example, holiday accommodation, hotels, farms, camping sites, tourism sights, tour guides and suppliers of tourism activities.

Being involved in the step-by-step process means:

•    Developing a 3 year action plan and an individual strategy in order to work towards the targets of sustainable tourism
•    Participation in training programmes on:

•    Biodiversity: exploring fauna, flora and geology
•    Cultural heritage: getting to know the history, economic development and architecture of the Cevennes etc
•    General communication techniques, such as online marketing, website use
•    Developing ecotourism projects

•    Environmental friendly uses of natural resources: water, fossil energies, recycling, responsible shopping

•    The realization of individual expertise, for example, studies about the thermo, agriculture etc
•    Development and use of didactic tools for the network: practical guidebooks for an environmentally friendly, economic quality procedure or legislation for tourism businesses
•    Awareness-raising of the tourists: developing nature interpretation paths, passing on knowledge, the rental of a “nature discovery back-pack”
•    Participation in networking activities through meetings, joint projects, information exchange and knowledge transfer
•    Using a joint communication policy to highlight and promote the businesses engagement:

•    Producing promotion leaflet
•    Participating in tourism trade fairs
•    Press relations
•    Internet promotion through own website (www.cevennes-ecotourisme.com) but also through cooperation with partner websites, e.g. www.marredelaplage.com, www.parcs-massif-central.com or www.cevennes-tourisme.fr
